the Philadelphia Flyer as they beat the Sabres 5-2. Tuesday January 11th 2011

I hate to say it but I was dead on about tonight's match up against the Philadelphia Flyers. The Flyers are a very strong team and they showed it tonight against the over matched and undermanned Sabres. In typical Sabres fashion they started off well and faltered in the end. They ripped my heart out by getting out to a two to nothing lead, and then squandered it. Ville Leino scored the eventual game winning goal early in the third period, actually thought the game was over when Philadelphia tied it in the second period. I have a couple of points I would like to hammer home, I guess a small rant is justified.
The Sabres have the most irresponsible defenseman in the NHL, period! Mike Weber, and Andrej Sekera made me want to pull my hair out. Is there something missing? Ryan Miller probably wishes he could play D and goal. If your a fan of this club, you will understand my gripe with this D core. I could take a group of pee wee defenseman and they would know how to play more fundamentally sound defense than the Sabres. Craig Rivet is finished with this hockey club, just give Thomas Vanek the "C". I have officially given up on Sekera, he has been given so many chances to succeed in this league. Lindy Ruff's "defense first" philosophy is hard to run if your defenseman can't play D. It's as simple as it sounds, but unfortunately poor defensive play keeps occurring.
Finally! I close this wrap up of this really disappointing game, I would like to talk about Tim Connolly. Either trade him at the trade deadline or do not re-sign him during the summer. He is a vastly talented player, but doesn't compete. We need to get his toxic attitude out of the locker room and do it as quickly as possible. I don't mean to sound like a complete moron, but this team needs a serious shakeup. This could be replacing the head coach, firing the general manager, trading complacent and overpaid players. Something has to happen soon, and I hope new owner Terry Pegula will jump start that process.
Go Sabres and Good Night!
